Adam Stokes

Adam is Full Professor and Chair of Bioinspired Engineering in The School of Engineering at The University of Edinburgh. He holds degrees in engineering, biomedical science, and chemistry. He used this background to found The Soft Systems Group, an interdisciplinary research laboratory focusing on the intersection of next-generation robotics technology, bioelectronics, and bioinspired engineering.
Adam is Co-Lead of The National Robotarium, the UK centre of excellence in robotics, and Deputy Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics.
Before joining the faculty at Edinburgh, he was a Fellow in the George M. Whitesides group at Harvard University, one of the most innovative and entrepreneurial labs in the world. Adam is enthusiastic about translating innovation out of the lab and into people’s lives. His entrepreneurial activities have been recognised by winning the Inaugural Data Driven Entrepreneurship (DDE) Academic Entrepreneurship Award, and the Principal’s Award for Innovation.
Outside of the academy Adam is a founder of several companies and has been assisting Archangels’ with the review and diligence of new investment opportunities since 2020.

Andrew Sealey

Andrew is Chairman of Campbell Lutyens, a global private capital advisory firm focused on fund placement, secondary advisory and GP capital advisory activities in the private equity, infrastructure, and private credit markets. He joined the firm in 1990 and took over responsibility for the management of the firm in 2003 remaining as CEO until he stood down in 2024. The firm grew during his tenure to become one of the largest firms of its type with over 270 people operating from thirteen offices around the world. Before joining Campbell Lutyens, he worked for David Hume Investment Management, a specialist listed and unlisted investment fund manager. Andrew has been an investor with Archangels since its establishment in 1992 and joined the Board of Archangels in 2021.

Dan McKiddie

Dan is a chartered accountant and worked at PwC for 8 years. Dan began his career in financial audit, before moving to the Transaction Services team. Latterly, Dan joined Inverleith LLP as an Investment Manager, before joining Archangels in 2023. He provides investment analysis and support for fund raisings and exits. He holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow.

David Ovens

David is responsible for the management of Archangels’ business.
David is an experienced investment banker, having worked for Samuel Montagu & Company Limited (HSBC Investment Bank), Noble Grossart and Noble & Company, before becoming CEO of Invercap, a corporate advisory and investment firm based in Edinburgh, in 2010. He joined Archangels in 2014 as Chief Operating Officer, subsequently becoming Joint Managing Director.
David has been Chair of Scottish Athletics since 2021 and currently serves as a member of the University of Edinburgh Court, as well as a non-executive director on the board of Angel Capital Scotland, the trade association for angel investors in Scotland and UK Athletics, the governing body for athletics in the UK. He was formerly Chair of SIS Ventures, a social impact investor based in Edinburgh.

Ian Macleod

Ian graduated from Heriot Watt University in Business Law and has an MBA from The University of Edinburgh. After working for four years with a US electronic components company, he moved to London and began a career as a financial analyst, in which he specialised in Electronics and Telecoms, initially with Capel Cure Myers and subsequently with decade long spells at NatWest Markets and Jefferies. During most of this period he was based in Paris and was recognised for several years as one of the leading European Telecoms analysts in the industry. Latterly Ian has focussed on smaller tech, cleantech and biotech companies, moving into fund management with 360 Asset Managers and more recently Accessible Clean Energy. Ian returned to Edinburgh in 2016 where he works as an editor, studies art and pursues other business interests. Ian joined the Board of Archangels in April 2018.

Lindsay Miller

Lindsay joined Archangels in 2015. She is responsible for finance, company secretarial and event management activities as well as the day to day running of the office. She holds an honours degree in Immunology and Microbiology from the University of Strathclyde.

Maureen Kinsler

Maureen has worked in the tech sector for over 25 years as a Patent Attorney at the global IP firm, Marks & Clerk (M&C), where she was a Partner and Chair of their International Business. More recently, she has been working for a leading US IP boutique. Maureen has a degree in physics and a PhD in semiconductor devices from Glasgow University. She specialises in photonics, semiconductors, computer related inventions and business methods. Maureen joined the Board of Archangels in 2020.

Mike MacPhee

Mike joined the board of Archangels in 2015. Called to the English Bar in 1987, Mike joined Baillie Gifford & Co. in 1989 and became a partner in 1998, retiring in 2014. He currently chairs the Baillie Gifford European Growth trust plc, spent 2 years on the NTS investment committee, is a director of Castle European plc and sits on the R&A‘s global Golf Development Group. He chairs Archangels new deals committee, having recently succeeded its founder Mike Rutterford in that role.

Neil Cunningham

Neil is Founder and Director of MatchPoint Hospitality Group, which creates events and acts for venues and sports bodies including the Sydney Cricket Ground, Hong Kong Rugby, the R&A, and the Asian Football Confederation. After 30 years, he recently sold the trading companies, whilst retaining the master license. He has invested in, and been Director of, various start-ups, JV’s and SPV’s in the hospitality and sports industries in the UK, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Neil has been a member of Archangel for over 15 years and became a Board member in 2022.

Niki McKenzie

Niki joined Archangels in 2011 and has oversight of the portfolio. She has responsibility for portfolio issues and has worked with the management teams to deliver exits including Blackford Analysis, CXR Biosciences, Bloxx, Touch Bionics and ZoneFox.
Niki has been an NXD Board Member of St Andrews Innovation, University of St Andrews since 2023.

Sarah Hardy

Sarah has extensive international experience of financing early stage opportunities in the technology sector, with specific focus in life science and healthcare arena. She has managed a large portfolio of academic programmes, charitable organisations, SMES and larger companies (public and private) to add value and achieve a commercial exit. Before joining the Archangels, Sarah worked in the Innovations Division of the Wellcome Trust, Advent Life Sciences venture team and Parke-Davis Neuroscience Research Centre. Sarah has a PhD in Molecular Neuropharmacology from the University of Aberdeen. Sarah joined Archangels in March 2016 and has direct responsibility for number of the portfolio companies, particularly those focused on healthcare.

Shaolei McKie

Shaolei is a Chartered Accountant who specialised in Leveraged Finance and Fund Investments within the Private Equity division of Bank of Scotland Corporate Banking. Latterly Shaolei was the Financial Controller at Corran Properties. Shaolei joined the Archangels team in 2017, and provides investment analysis and support for fund raisings and exits.
