Andrew Sealey

Andrew is CEO of Campbell Lutyens, a global private capital advisory firm focused on fund placement and secondary advisory activities in private equity, infrastructure, and private credit. He joined the firm in 1990 and took over responsibility for the management of the firm in 2003. The firm has grown to become one of the largest of its type with over 160 people operating from eight offices around the world. Before joining Campbell Lutyens, he worked for David Hume Investment Management, a specialist listed and unlisted investment fund manager. Andrew has been an investor with Archangels since its establishment in 1993 and joined the Board of Archangels in 2021.

David Ovens

David has responsibility for the day to day management of Archangels’ business. He also has responsibility for a number of the portfolio companies. David is an experienced corporate financier, having worked for Samuel Montagu & Company Limited, Noble Grossart Limited and Noble & Company Limited, before setting up Invercap, a corporate advisory and investment firm based in Edinburgh. He is Chair of SIS Ventures (a subsidiary of Social Investment Scotland) and a non-executive director of LINC Scotland, the trade association for angel investors in Scotland.

Eric Young

Eric joined the Archangels’ Board in 2000 and was appointed Chairman in 2014. He has invested in every new deal and rights’ issue from the date of his appointment to the Board. He was a Director of Oregon Timber Frame, an Archangels portfolio company based in Selkirk, which was sold to Barratt Developments Plc in 2019. He recently retired from Eric Young and Co, the commercial property consultancy that he founded in 1983 and has joined Orinsen as Chairman with five former colleagues. Other appointments include Rutterford Holdings Limited, various investment and development SPVs. He also supports several Scottish charities and Trusts.

Ian Macleod

Ian graduated from Heriot Watt University in Business Law and has an MBA from The University of Edinburgh. After working for four years with a US electronic components company, he moved to London and began a career as a financial analyst, in which he specialised in Electronics and Telecoms, initially with Capel Cure Myers and subsequently with decade long spells at NatWest Markets and Jefferies. During most of this period he was based in Paris and was recognised for several years as one of the leading European Telecoms analysts in the industry. Latterly Ian has focussed on smaller tech, cleantech and biotech companies, moving into fund management with 360 Asset Managers and more recently Accessible Clean Energy. Ian returned to Edinburgh in 2016 where he works as an editor, studies art and pursues other business interests. Ian joined the Board of Archangels in April 2018.

Lindsay Miller

Office Manager

Lindsay joined Archangels in December 2015. She is responsible for finance, company secretarial and event management activities as well as the day to day running of the office. She holds an honours degree in Immunology and Microbiology from the University of Strathclyde.

Maureen Kinsler

Maureen has worked in the tech sector for over 25 years as a Patent Attorney at the global IP firm, Marks & Clerk (M&C), where she has been a Partner since 2004 and recently retired as Chair of their International Business. She has extensive experience of patent prosecution and handles many internationally diverse patent portfolios. She has also advised clients on due diligence and freedom-to-operate matters and provided infringement and invalidity opinions. Maureen has a degree in physics and a PhD in semiconductor devices from Glasgow University. She specialises in photonics, semiconductors, computer related inventions and business methods. Maureen joined the Board of Archangels in 2020.

Mike MacPhee

Mike joined the board of Archangels in 2015. Called to the English Bar in 1987, Mike joined Baillie Gifford & Co. in 1989 and became a partner in 1998, retiring in 2014. He currently chairs the Baillie Gifford European Growth trust plc, spent 2 years on the NTS investment committee, is a director of Castle European plc and sits on the R&A‘s global Golf Development Group. He chairs Archangels new deals committee, having recently succeeded its founder Mike Rutterford in that role.

Niki McKenzie

Niki is a Chartered Accountant with a strong background in Corporate Finance. Having trained with KPMG, she subsequently held various senior roles with Bank of Scotland, including in Structured Finance and Lloyds Bank Group’s International division. She joined Archangels in 2011 and has oversight of the investment activity of the portfolio, as well as direct responsibility for a number of the portfolio companies.

Sarah Hardy

Sarah has extensive international experience of financing early stage opportunities in the technology sector, with specific focus in life science and healthcare arena. She has managed a large portfolio of academic programmes, charitable organisations, SMES and larger companies (public and private) to add value and achieve a commercial exit. Before joining the Archangels, Sarah worked in the Innovations Division of the Wellcome Trust, Advent Life Sciences venture team and Parke-Davis Neuroscience Research Centre. Sarah has a PhD in Molecular Neuropharmacology from the University of Aberdeen. Sarah joined Archangels in March 2016 and has direct responsibility for number of the portfolio companies, particularly those focused on healthcare.

Shaolei McKie

Investment Executive

Shaolei is a Chartered Accountant who specialised in Leveraged Finance and Fund Investments within the Private Equity division of Bank of Scotland Corporate Banking. Latterly Shaolei was the Financial Controller at Corran Properties, responsible for all financial and management accounting functions and development project and property portfolio cashflows. Shaolei joined the Archangels’ team as an Investment Executive in March 2017. Her role is to support the Investment Team, particularly in relation to book-building, management of share cap tables, due diligence and management of the investment portal.

Tim Allan

Tim currently serves as President of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce. He is a private equity and property entrepreneur with many philanthropic interests including the Chair of the V&A Dundee. He is a founder and director of Motor Fuel Group, the largest independent fuel retailer in the UK with more than 900 stations and annual turnover of more than £4bn. Tim joined the Board of Archangels in 2019.
