Scottish-based business angel syndicate, Archangels, has appointed former Baillie Gifford & Co Partner, Michael MacPhee, to its board of directors.
Having been called to the English Bar in 1987, Michael joined Baillie Gifford & Co in 1989 and became a partner in 1998. He instigated investment in Latin America during the 1990s, headed the firm’s European Department from 2003 to 2008 and thereafter co-managed a global investment strategy. From 1998, until his retirement from the firm in 2014, he was the manager of Mid Wynd International Investment Trust PLC.
Archangels, the prominent business angel syndicate based in Edinburgh, has been at the forefront of early stage investing in Scotland for more than two decades.
Eric Young, Chairman of Archangels, said:
“Archangels is all about investing in Scotland’s best young business talent and providing the support to turn their dreams into reality. I’m certain that Michael’s experience will be a major asset for Archangels as we continue this vital work.”
Michael MacPhee said:
“Archangels has done a great deal to help turn Scottish scientific talent into business success over a couple of decades now and I believe the opportunities that lie ahead have never been greater.”
