The Scottish Business Insider Deals & Dealmakers Awards were held in Glasgow on the 7th of September 2016. The executive team from Archangels attended the event hosted by Fred Macaulay, which acknowledges and rewards excellence in corporate finance transactions.
This year Archangels were linked to 2 award categories:
Dealmaker of the Year
We are extremely proud of our Adviser (and former CEO), John Waddell, who won this category! The award is described as “one of the most prestigious individual business awards in Scotland, the person who wins this will be creative and dynamic with a first class track record. The individual will have played a key role in enabling a deal and/or deals to happen. He or she may have identified the opportunity or played a key role during negotiations.”
John’s nomination was on account of his work with CXR, Bloxx & Touch Bionics. John played a vital role in the strategic development of each of these companies during their formative years. He was key in shaping the exit landscape for these companies and in identifying the correct strategic point to sell. John’s involvement not only provided a good outcome for management, employees and investors, but it confirmed that investing in very early stage companies, when well managed, can outperform other asset classes in terms of investment returns.
Early Stage/Risk Capital Deal of the Year
Our portfolio company, LUX Assure Ltd were one of only three finalists in this category, where the judges were looking at the quality of the investment capital, the level and complexity of the syndication of the investment, the scale of market opportunity for the company and potential return for investors, and the role of the management team and its advisers in realising the deal. LUX were shortlisted having managed to secure additional funding from existing investors and new corporate VCs, in the backdrop of a very challenging market.
